Book of the Week: Jo Walton, Farthing
Simultaneously a classic English country-house murder mystery and an extremely creepy alternate history in which England negotiated peace with Hitler in 1938 and the Third Reich now spans all of Europe; British Jews are third class citizens, homosexuality is a crime, and the propaganda machine makes giving up yet more civil liberties look like your patriotic duty. It's a testament to Walton's talent that this is still a cracking good story...but it'll be a long time before I'll be able to make myself re-read it.
